Chapter 4: Penitas Neighborhood Sues Oil Company

This video gives another example of a lawsuit being filed against an oil company like the one discussed in Crude World. This lawsuit is much more about property damage than damage to human life, but it comes down to the same thing - holding oil companies accountable.

Chapter 3: Oil and Democracy in the Niger Delta

While this video does talk about oil and the horrible effects, it focuses more on the warlord that Maass mentioned, Asari, and the people who were enlisted as soldiers and promised compensation - but never got it. The video expresses some hope that the new government will improve the quality of life there, and hopefully hold the oil companies and the military accountable.

Chapter 6: Rep. Denham Speaks Out Against GSA Spending Scandal

In this video,  representative Jeff Denham talks about a recent scandal in Washington, D.C. In Crude World, Maass presents corruption and bribery as simple facts of life, in the United States and most other countries. Unfortunately, the presence of this video - and a multitude of others I could have chosen from, discussing this and other scandals from the current administration - very nearly proves him right.

Chapter 2: Equatorial Guinea, the rich and the poor
This video talks about the massive socioeconomic gap that exists in Equatorial Guinea, something that is pointed out in Crude World as a terrible side effect of a corrupt government and corrupt oil companies. While the government official interviewed claims that they are trying to bridge that gap, create opportunities and wealth for the general population of Equatorial Guinea, neither the narrator of this video nor Maass seems to have much faith that anything like that will actually happen.

Chapter 1: Peak Oil - Bruce Robinson Interviewed on The Project

Despite being from an Australian view point, this video expresses many of the concerns that we have here about "peak oil" - what it really is, and what it can mean for us. It also provides a comprehensive solution to it, if we accept that it's happening and we start planning for it by prioritizing how our oil is used.

Chapter 5: The Business of Business is People

In this video, the CEO of Southwest Airlines presents a business idea that is quite contrary to the one implied by chapter five of Crude World. He states that the main goal of his business is to satisfy what he called internal customers - otherwise known as employees - who will hopefully, in turn, satisfy the external customers. The main goal of business as presented in Crude World is to make money - nothing else. Ideally, a combination of these methods are put into place. Employees and customers are treated well, and a profit is made.

Intro: Economic crisis

This video discusses the current economic crisis hitting the United States - how things have improved, and what things have remained static. Since both Crude World and Fast Food Nationdeal with monopolized businesses, and what the oil and fast food industries are doing to the economy as a whole, I felt it was a good place to start getting some information on the current state of things.
