Most are illegal immigrants, can not read any language, and are more than willing to put in hard labor for any wage no matter how cheap. the conditions are deplorable, and all for the profit of the meat packing companies.

This article talks about the benefits of working in the fast food industry as a teenager. it covers how it teaches working under stressful situations, working with diversity, and also about what one would enjoy in a career. Maybe a teen doesn't like selling things but loves the human interaction, they may want a career in something relating to social work. It also allows the teen to work from the bottom up. To start small but be able to achieve more in later years.

Here are some "simple" and extensive steps for marketing success. Where it talks about being patient and learning from the past, and being organized. However, nothing about the treatment of workers. It talks about how to get the business and how to keep the business, but not what exactly to do to attain that business. Hmmmm.
I found this site to be very interesting. It is the website for the town of Greely. This page talked about Ken Monfort and his contributions and achievements in and out of Greely. It is rather lighthearted though not very well put together. It talks nothing of the problems that the company had with its workers and his ideal changes.
It looks as if it were a child's school project.

A lengthy article but one need only read the first page to get a good chunk of information. It goes into the psychology of a young child from their exposure to advertising and what it does to the fact that many children do not entirely comprehend the difference between a t.v. show and an advertisement. Even if they do, they don't understand the long term consequences they are putting on themselves.

So, after reading Fast Food Nation chapter one we see how much of an impact the industry has had on our lives. It's sparked a new urban culture, highway culture, and mental culture. It's had a huge hand in stocks, how we eat, the process of eating, and how the stuff we eat becomes the stuff we eat. However, with all this change is it possible that the fast food industry itself is going to change too? By selling baby carrots in colorful bags that could rival Frito Lay the change may come sooner than we think.
